Is Hikawadai a good area to stay in Tokyo?
Yes, if you want to stay where Tokyoites actually live. Two officially registered shotengai sit at the station — Hikawadai Ekimae Shotengai (56 members) and Hikawadai Shotengai, trading since 1957 — plus a Summit supermarket about 120 m from the station and a 24-hour Seven-Eleven under 100 m from it. Nights are quiet, yet Ikebukuro is about 8 minutes away.
Getting around
Hikawadai Station is served by the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line (Y05) and Fukutoshin Line (F05), so trains run direct in both directions. Approximate times: Ikebukuro about 8 minutes, Shinjuku-sanchome about 14 minutes, Shibuya about 20 minutes on the Fukutoshin Line, Iidabashi about 20 minutes on the Yurakucho Line, and Yokohama/Minatomirai about 53 minutes on the Fukutoshin through-service. Haneda Airport is about 58 minutes via Ikebukuro; Narita about 1 hour 16 minutes via Ikebukuro and the Skyliner.
Where can I see cherry blossoms near Hikawadai?
Johoku Chuo Park, a metropolitan park partly inside the Hikawadai district, is about a 20-minute walk from the station and holds more than 9,000 trees, cherry among them. The owners note the neighbourhood is especially beautiful during sakura season.
How far is the Harry Potter studio tour?
Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo — The Making of Harry Potter stands on the former Toshimaen site in Kasuga-cho, the same ward as this apartment. Allow about 25 to 30 minutes door to door from Hikawadai, changing at Kotake-mukaihara and Nerima for the Seibu Toshima Line to Toshimaen, then a two-minute walk.
Honest limitations
Kaza 105 is on the ground floor, so there are no stairs to climb and no elevator to wait for. The hosts live nearby and can help by phone or message, and will meet guests at Hikawadai Station when their schedule permits. Guests do occasionally get off at Sakuradai instead of Hikawadai — message us for a map pin — and the Japanese air conditioner takes a few minutes to make a difference after you turn it on. There is no parking on the premises, though there is coin parking nearby; we cannot store luggage after checkout; and smoking, pets and parties are not permitted.
How do you get here from Haneda or Narita Airport?
From Haneda, the route the owner recommends is the Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho, the JR Yamanote Line to Ikebukuro, then the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho or Fukutoshin Line to Hikawadai — about 60–75 minutes in all. From Narita, take the Keisei Skyliner or a JR train into central Tokyo and change to the Yurakucho or Fukutoshin Line — about 90–120 minutes. Once you are on either Metro line it is a direct ride to Hikawadai, then a 4-minute walk on mostly flat, paved paths.
Is it suitable for a family with small children?
Yes, with the usual care. The apartment is on the ground floor with direct access to the outside, so supervise children near the entrance and the road. Every window has a lock designed to be hard for children to open on their own. Children's dinnerware is provided, and there is a bathtub.
What are the check-in details, and can you store luggage?
